Tutorials

A friend recently reminded me that I had some Booktrailer tutorials and she was hoping to use them. I looked at them and realized they were O-L-D, some things get better with age, but tutorials on software definitely do not. (Again, I'm getting nudged into action- I sense a theme here.)

So, here's a sneak peak of my tutorial in progress-- utilizing my favorite tech tool (at the moment) Edpuzzle. (Seriously, if you haven't checked out EDpuzzle, it is simply amazing!)
The video is from "Robb's Homemade Life" series on YouTube. This one is entitled " Beginners guide to making easy slideshows with Windows Live Movie Maker.Using Edpuzzle, I edited it down a little, and will be dropping it into a new Hyperdoc lesson for my students.
Booktrailers

Booktrailers are an incredible tool to engage our over-scheduled, media obsessed students. Images and music team to tease and entice the reader to check out that book. I like to think of it as speed-dating for books.
A booktrailer, like speed dating, has just seconds to make a good impression. With the right images, music, and the perfect word selection a match can be made.
Check out my updated tutorial, "Booktrailer Basics," and get your students matched to books right away.

You may be wondering why I use MovieMaker as opposed to any of the online programs, for my students it is simply a case of accessibility. We have PC's in our labs and my library. Most of my students do not have computers at home. So, for them, it needs to be free and easily accessed. I've used a few other online options, but I find that the limitations (time limits) and potential cost make it prohibitive for my students. But, as always, I'm open to other options- feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments. I love feedback.
As I update my tutorial, I find that I'm still enamored with MovieMaker. They've made it simpler and it has gotten better with age. I was happy to see that they streamlined the themes so that a quick scroll and click will get you a cinematic video with no real effort.
